Uit de reisbeschrijving van Frames National:

The route today takes us eastwards towards the South Wales valleys site of the huge coal and steel industry in the late 19th and 20th centuries and on to the administrative capital of Wales at Cardiff.

From Carmarthen we travel through Llandello, an historic little market town in the Towy valley, and Llandovery, meaning Church among the Waters, into Brecon. Above the town rise the three peaks of the Brecon Beacons almost 3000 feet above sea level, the highest mountains in South Wales.
The town is the administrative centre for the Brecon Beacons National Park, its Cathedral dates from the 12th century and nearby is an 87 ft. high round tower built in the 10th or 11th century as a watchtower and place of safety for the priest and church treasurers.

Uit de reisbeschrijving van Frames National:

We continue down the valleys through Caerphilly, well known for the crumbly cheese made locally and for its castle, occupying 30 acres in the middle of the town it is the largest in Wales and with the exception of Windsor the largest in Britain. In the hills around the town the Welsh defied the Norman invaders for 200 years from 1066.

Uit de reisbeschrijving van Frames National:

A short distance further south we reach Cardiff and the overnight stop. We visit its great castle, started in 1870 but standing on the remains of its Norman and Roman predecessors.
The Romans built a fort by the River Taff in AD75 and then in AD300 they expanded it as a defence against pirates from Ireland. Legend says that Lancelot sailed from Cardiff after King Arthur banished him and the town gradually grew around the original fort until 1581 it was given its first charter by Queen Elizabeth I. Cardiff quickly became an important port on the Severn, one area known as Tiger Bay swarmed with seamen from all parts of the world and was regarded as one of the world’s toughest seaports. In 1955 Queen Elizabeth Il made the city the official capital of Wales.
